I was talking with the heads of Connection Research the other day and they mentioned a very cool online ICT Sustainability Virtual Summit.
It got me thinking about carbon-heavy events and the fact that many sustainability events are still 'in-person' and not remote or recorded in some way. Don't get me wrong - I understand the need for physical networking however providing the option to view content from the comfort of your home and office will suit more than just the green proponents.
And yes we are heading towards virtual events but they just can't seem to come fast enough for me (the gen-x bordering on gen-y). And from a personal point of view it suits me better because although I speak frequently in front of crowds about green IT it still gets the butterflies fluttering heavily! ;)
There looks to be some noted speakers at the event, including:
- Achim Steiner, Executive Director, UNEP
- Nick Earle, Senior VP, Cisco
- Paul Dickison, CEO, Carbon Disclosure Project
- Lynette Thorstensen, Director of Comms, World Business Council for Sustainable Development
- Peter Lockley, Head of Transport Policy, WWF UK
Anyway - check it out and join in on February 9-11 2010 - there is a link to 'Get Event Updates' on this page: I am not sure on all the registration costs yet but if they are reasonable I hope to virtually 'see' you there...
