ByteBack, a joint initiative between Sustainability Australia and AIIA, offers free computer recycling facilities to the public and small businesses.
On 6th September AIIA & Sustainability Victoria announced the ByteBack program, which is a trial computer recycling program running in conjunction with partners Fujitsu, Apple, Canon, Dell, Epson, Fuji-Xerox, HP, IBM, Lenovo and Lexmark. The program is an interesting one because the recycling responsibility is shared amongst industry leaders and the government and the trial is hoped to server as a framework, and provide valuable recycling information to be used for a national program in the future.
ByteBack is currently available in Camberwell and Geelong, but has plans to expand to 9 sites in Victoria. Guidelines for drop offs are:
-
You must be a resident or small business.
-
10 items can be dropped off at one time.
-
Most computer items are recyclable - there are a few exclusions including joysticks, digital cameras, mobile phones, white goods and TVs.
-
All brands are accepted.
For mobile phone recycling, view the Mobile Muster Program.
