One Million Women - Can they make a difference?

If you haven't heard of it before, the One Million Women campaign is an Australian initiative encouraging the sign-up of one million women to change activities in their lives and households, that affect climate change.  The campaign is supported by major Australian businesses including Telstra, BP, Wolf Blass and The Climate Institute.

The campaign itself involves a website on which women register and then commit to activities to change environmental issues.   They have developed an attractive and easy to use system where you select from a range of activities, and then track your progress against them at intervals:

The 1 Million Women campaign will be running a series of forums in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in November and December, with a range f guest presenters including:

  • Bernie Hobbs, ABC Science Presenter
  • Lisa Corbyn, Director-General, NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change
  • The Hon. Anna Bligh, Premier of Queensland
  • Senator Penny Wong, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Water
